One of my favorite poets is Mary Oliver. I know I’ve mentioned her before. I came across a poem of hers again this morning entitled “THIRST”:
Someone I loved once gave me a box of darkness.
It took me years to understand that this too, was a gift.
Mary is as elegant as she is to the point.
I’ve been writing a lot lately. After years of only peering through the keyhole of a closed door, I think I might have pried it open.
Now it’s starting to feel like I’m ready to kick the damn thing off its hinges.
Today’s offering is a new song I’m working on called “Bad for Leaving.”
Into the great wide open, under them skies of blue.
Yours,
JR
I don’t know what made me think of you tonight, but you were a mainstay of my college years at sdsu. Hearing this brought back so many memories
What a gift…. Glad to hear things are flowing and you are feeling it. Music is one of the last forms of magic we have.
