Hello High Shelter People,
This last bit of the year has been a G-R-I-N-D. I spend an abnormal amount of my life in an airline seat (for a non-pilot) and every year I hit the wall right about now and my body and mind say NO MORE! Time to rest.
A few days is all it will take, and my annual pre-winter melancholy will melt into dreams of the year anew.
I will prepare myself to be excited again. I can feel a renewed lust for life on the horizon.
I’ve been drawing on scraps, carving out a place to hold these stories in my head, pinning up polaroids, and pinning down opening lines.
So get ready. Something is brewing, hatching underneath the frost.
We reacquainted ourselves two Decembers ago on High Shelter with a Christmas song - and today I have another for you. A melody arrived like a migrating bird, a cipher to the sweet sadness of winter remembering. I think I got most of it down before it flew away.
Here’s to holly on highways and mistletoe in the streets.
And please remember what John and Yoko always said: War is over, if you want it.
Even the war you wage on yourself.
Spread the word to someone who needs to hear it this Xmas.
Yours,
JR

Hi Jason. Thank you for posting the songs, the messages and updates. I can’t tell you how much they mean to me when I see an update in my email. Been a fan since the mid-90s and still play your music in my car and with my band. Nothing but love for you. Merry Christmas.
