Where do songs come from?
I suppose it really depends on whom you ask and what you think a song really is. I happen to think that songs always surround us—it’s our job to pull them down and share them. Or, to pull them down and simply sit with them a while.
Sometimes, that process might feel like you’re channeling absolute gibberish, but when a melody, a hidden harmony, or whatever you’re hearing in your head arrives, it speaks to you at a cellular and spiritual level. Whether the intensity of the connection vibrates more, less, or equally within your body or your soul, there’s no wrong way to feel something sent to you by the universe.
Another random thing that occurred to me this morning—it’s easy to forget we’re made mostly of water (blood), until you get cut.
Same with songs. They’re ever flowing through and around us, and for many, they’re most recognizable when processing some kind of pain.
I do, though, believe that the best songs find YOU. Not the other way around. Having music find you can feel like repeatedly discovering a new planet—or having new planets infinitely discovered within you. You’re floating alone in the universe and then suddenly a song whooshes in. boom. pop. wow. You’re not alone anymore. You’re a shooting star. Galaxies are within reach.
As you listen or sing along, the song whispers: i see you.
Questions about songs? I’m listening.

I love that sound. The guitar reminds me of a video I watched years ago: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZNfaPARzXJo
