I always connected the scene from dead pretty society where the character is in front of the class, closes his eyes as he creates a poem about the blanket that is never big enough to cover you, you beat at it, you kick it but it's never enough, you can only use it to cover your face as you cry and wail.
This song always makes me stop in my tracks and listen, listen, listen
The first time I heard Lucky was at a club in West Virginia at Soundcheck. I might be wrong about this, but I think it was in Charlottesville, and the name of the club was trax? Great songs out of this band never surprised me, but that one hit hard! Thank you for sharing the electric version. I have missed this!
Jason. This is music is simply inspiring. The creativity. The words. That guitar. That old school rock and roll quality. Thank you for what you give and do!
I love this song, and it's great to hear it's origin story. Rock Crown has a special place in my heart. I listened to it constantly in high school Houdini's Angels taught me life lessons, and Oven I can lose myself in that one. I appreciate what you're doing here.
This is an incredible version. Of course Ross brings it but JP also had a hand. Can’t deny Pollock’s influence on the band. I love his playing with band. Over your shoulder. Unreal. Don’t care about technique - no slight to TJ. Just JP and Ross and Casey and Giti were magic. No doubt.
Lucky is one of my favorite songs of all time!! I think it’s awesome to know the meaning and thoughts behind someone’s music! I always find it so interesting how a song can mean such different things to different people. Your music has been a very important part of the sound track to my life for many years and continues to be! Thank you for sharing these things with everyone! I still listen to your albums often!
Thank you SO much for sharing. I've always wondered what was up with Mean Mr. Mustard, AND heard you once play Lucky heavy like this in Portland, OR and always wished I could hear it again.
This is gold. Great back story to a wonderful song. Thank you for the unique opportunity to connect with a part of my history. Stay well Mean Mr. Mustard
thanks for the story....WOW I like this version as much if not more than what you released. Raw and powerful agree with Peter on the favorite dog comparison. Thanks for keeping us up to date.
Cheers to Mebane. I knew there was always depth in this song. I appreciate where such letters, stories, and conversations can take us in life. Thanks for sharing JR.
Man, this is really cool to read and hear. Chris Robinson of the Black Crowes?

Hearing this version makes Lucky feel more from American Standard. It's like a sibling to Favorite Dog!
